Jim Abernethy, know as James or by his beloved wife as Jas, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday 19th of November 2019.
Husband of Ann, who sadly passed away 31/03/2019. He is survived by his Daughter Fiona Abernethy, Step children Trish Hartley, Loraine Jones, Darren Chadwick & Mervyn Chadwick and Grandchildren Laura Hartley, Sarah Jones, Emma Jones, Paul Jones, Claire Chadwick & Anthony Chadwick.
Jim & Ann married 4th of June 1982, with their daughter Fiona as bridesmaid. They were each others second marriage but it was a once in a life time love. They had the most wonderful marriage filled with adventure and laughter and together they were incredibly proud of the independent, free spirited woman they raised Fiona to be. Jim and Ann were soul mates who cared for each other through sickness and health and towards her finally years Jim was at Ann's side caring for her until her last breath. Jim spent his final months with his daughter Fiona in their home, they went on many adventures which cemented their love and bond as father and daughter. Fiona is so grateful she was able to spend that precious time caring for her father and is heartbroken at the loss of her best friend.
Jim lead the most amazing life. Born in West Calder Midlothian, Scotland to Jean & Robert Abernethy, Jim was the proudest Scotsman you would meet. He had a rough start spending time in and out of hospital as a child yet he grew to be an incredible man with an infectious spirit and an amazing sense of humour. Not only did he love to watch his beloved Rugby & Cricket (except when Scotland were losing, he'd always change channel and hope for the best), he played for many years wherever his life took him. He travelled and worked in many places eventually settling in Coventry.
Jim had a varied career, including a term in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He worked at Courtaulds as a Textile technologist for over 40 years where he was incredibly respected by everyone he worked with after retiring from Courtaulds Jim worked as a manager for Palmer & Harvey before finally enjoying his retirement.
He lived his life through music and was a big fan of ABBA, The Bee Gees & James Last to name a few, he listened to them for years, yet could not remember the lyrics for the life of him, but that never stoped him singing along. He was a big fan of TV Crime Dramas, he and Ann must have watched each episode of Midsummer Murders at least 3 times. He would watch any film Fiona put on & loved a trip to the cinema, Bond films were his favourite. No matter what he was watching he was always one step ahead of the punchline, the most intelligent of men, he was always laughing and spreading that Joy. He would always be occupied with a Jigsaw, Criss Cross puzzle book or watching a Quiz show on TV, Jim was always seeking to learn something new and to share that knowledge. He made friends where ever he went, the kindest soul and a true gentleman.
